This is a fun nonsense song you can use with any 3-syllable word, including student names.
Ideas for using this song:
- Beat vs. Rhythm: Students sit in a circle and pass around a drum. Each student says his/her name and taps out the rhythm of the name. Students echo and put on their fingers how many syllables they hear. When we find a student with a 3-syllable name, we start to sing "Chumbara" song with that person's name sung over and over. Students pat the beat while singing.
- Melody- Up and Down: Students learn to sing the song and move their hands in the air to follow the ups, downs and repeats of the melody. Add scarves on another day. Another time they can add large motor movement to demonstrate the curve of the melody. End by leaping up in the air on the penultimate note!
