Carnaval is like Mardi Gras in Brazil. We listen to the song Mama Paquita and learn to sing it. The meter is in 2, which we contrast with the meter in 2 in Abiyoyo. We dance with patterns in 2. Students help to demonstrate their 2-patterns.I learned this song from the Silver Burdett World of Music series. I found a short clip of it here. That link also has a clip of the Brazilian version: Mama Eu Quero. That can be fun to play for the kids.
The Silver Burdett version has some great instrumentation, but if you can't find that one, play another Carnaval song as you ask the kids to guess what country. (I chose these songs for their music, not the videos - I wouldn't show the videos.)
