Kindergarten

STATE GOAL 25:  Know the language of the arts.
Voice Location Matching Quiz - Identify difference between voices: singing, talking, whispering, “calling” (shouting).
High/Low Quiz, Loud/Soft Quiz– Listen for musical differences.

STATE GOAL 26:  Through creating and performing, understand how works of art are produced.
Pitch Matching Performance – Sing a song accurately with 3 specific pitches.
Steady Beat Performance – Demonstrate steady beat while listening to a song.

STATE GOAL 27:  Understand the role of the arts in civilizations, past and present.
Celebrations Quiz – Match sounds to pictures (birthday party, Christmas, 4th of July fireworks and parade)
Fast/Slow Quiz – Identify fast and slow sounds in Camille Saint-SaĆ«ns’ composition Carnival of the Animals.

Grade 1

STATE GOAL 25:  Know the language of the arts.
Rhythm: Beat/No Beat Quiz- Identify instrumental music with a steady beat and without a steady beat.
Melody: Up/Down Quiz- Identify difference between melodic tones that go up and tones that go down.
Rhythmic Dictation Quiz- Write down beats and rests as they are dictated.
Rhythm: Notes/Rests Quiz- Identify symbols for quarter note, eighth notes, and quarter rest.
Percussion Quiz- Identify percussion instruments commonly used in Music Class.
Program Performance - Demonstrate knowledge of songs and motions learned for the Music Program.

STATE GOAL 26:  Through creating and performing, understand how works of art are produced.
Pitch Matching Performance - Sing a song accurately with 3 specific pitches.
Steady Beat Performance – Demonstrate steady beat while listening to a song.
Rhythm Notes/Rests Performance- Perform rhythmic symbols (quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rest).
Program Performance - Demonstrate creative expression in the Music Program.

STATE GOAL 27:  Understand the role of the arts in civilizations, past and present.
Nutcracker Quiz- Identify facts of The Nutcracker (Tchaikovsky) and distinguish between two songs from the ballet.
Peter and the Wolf Quiz- Identify characters and musical themes in orchestral work: Peter and the Wolf (Prokofiev).
Program Performance - Demonstrate concert etiquette during the Music Program.

Grade 2

STATE GOAL 25:  Know the language of the arts.
Rhythmic Dictation Quiz- Write down notes and rests as they are dictated.
Melody: so, mi, la Worksheet- Recognize 3 pitches as they are notated on the musical staff.
Rhythm: Notes/Rests Quiz- Identify symbols for notes (quarter, eighth, half) and rests: (quarter, half).
Strings Quiz- Identify names of certain string instruments and recognize string sounds.

STATE GOAL 26:  Through creating and performing, understand how works of art are produced.
Pitch Matching Performance - Sing a song accurately with 3 specific pitches.
Rhythm Notes/Rests Performance- Perform rhythmic symbols with notes and rests we have studied.
Composition Written- Demonstrate ability to write an original composition using 3 pitches.
Composition Performance- Perform original composition.

World Music Quiz- Recognize songs and sounds from different cultures.

Grade 3

Meter Quiz- Identify rhythms of songs as occurring in groups of 2 or groups of 3.
Rhythm: Notes/Rests Quiz- Identify symbols for notes and rests (quarter, eighth, half, whole, dotted half).
Harmony Quiz- Identify harmony in songs as “rounds” or “partner songs”.
Orchestra Quiz- Identify families of the orchestra and recognize sounds of instruments from these families.
Program Performance - Demonstrate knowledge of songs and motions learned for the Music Program.

Grade 5
